Insomnia

How Hypnotherapy Helps

Insomnia is a complex condition whose causes can be very subtle or difficult to identify. Staying awake when you want to go to sleep deprives your mind and body of the time they need to rest and recover. This can leave you feeling low on energy, lethargic, and can even impact your mental health. Whilst many turn to sleeping tablets to try and combat insomnia this approach doesn’t address the root causes. To do that you need to rewire how your mind is thinking when you lie in bed…

Why Do I Suffer From Insomnia?

Insomnia can have many different causes which makes this a complex question to answer. Depression and anxiety are both common causes, and unfortunately they are both exacerbated by a lack of sleep. If your mind is continuously occupied and feeling like it is going round in circles then you’ll find it next to impossible to drift off to sleep. This is nothing to be ashamed of and it is something that touches the lives of far more people than you’d first think. The secret is to remember that you’re not alone, and that with the right tools in place your struggle will not last a lifetime.

Understanding Occupying Thoughts

When you’re lying awake late at night you may feel that your mind is completely empty which makes your struggles with insomnia all the more disheartening. What we need to acknowledge is that your mind can still be a hive of activity in the subconscious, even if you feel like you have switched off for the night. Occupying thoughts are one of many names given to these activities that occur deep within the brain and keep you up at night. They can leave you feeling anxious or depressed, both of which will tend to keep you up for hour after hour even if your body is crying out for a good night’s sleep.

Develop a Sense of Calm

What we need to do is develop a deep sense of calm that allows you to drift off within 10 minutes of getting into bed. This may sound easier said than done, and it will take time, but the destination is always worth the journey.
